The Matrix secure chat server is currently the most trustworthy, mature open-source communications platform. Due to security requirements, ONLY open-source solutions are relevant for our project(s), as in order to have real security, one has to be able to inspect (all of) the code used by the platform. Hence; For real security, only open-source solutions can be used. A second aspect with security ramifications is "decentralizeABLE"; meaning that even if one does not always or everywhere at all points in time use decentralized platform(s), one has to be able to move onto own, decentralized servers at any point in time later, when that becomes relevant. Therefore; only decentralizeable platforms (such as Matrix, NextCloud, Hubzilla, Mastodon, etc.) can/will be used by our project(s).

TIP: The Germany-hosted (www.)OpenDesktop.org free service includes all of the following in the same account: Matrix secure chat, NextCloud, OpenCode (GitLab), Mastodon (open, decentralized Twitter competitor), and more. Even if you strategically would not choose to stay there long term, it is an easy starting place to explore these solutions. You can find us by searching for "arbolis" among the Matrix groups. The group(s) are currently at the free "chat.OpenDesktop.org" Matrix server, but available also from/via the main, public Matrix.org (and "app.element.io") service. Notice that for Matrix secure chat, you can choose between using an app (Android, iOS, etc.) or simply using a modern browser to log in via the web interface. Also notice that the "second factor" authentication used by Matrix is "another login on a different device"; meaning that in order to have two-factor security; you should log in and stay logged in on at least 2 different devices.
